Observation of γ-ray emission above 200 GeV from the AGN 1ES1959+650 during low x-ray and optical activity

چکیده
The AGN 1ES1959+650 has been observed with the MAGIC telescope in September and October 2004, at the end of the commissioning phase. The MAGIC Telescope is currently the IACT with the lowest energy threshold, which is well suited for observations of weak γ-ray sources with soft spectra, like AGNs in a quiescent state. During the first observations by MAGIC, 1ES1959+650 was in a low state of activity both in optical and in X-ray wavelengths. The preliminary analysis of VHE γ-ray data showed a highly significant γ-ray signal, while no significant variation of emission during the examined period has been found. The results of the analysis and the comparison with previous observations will be presented.

Observation of VHE gamma-ray emission from the Active Galactic Nucleus 1ES1959+650 using the MAGIC telecope
The MAGIC Cherenkov telescope has observed very high energy (VHE) gamma-ray emission from the Active Galactic Nucleus 1ES1959+650 during six hours in September and October 2004. The observations were carried out alternated with the Crab Nebula, whose data were used as reference source for optimizing gamma/hadron separation and for flux comparison. The data analysis shows VHE gamma-ray emission ...
متن کاملObservation of Very-High-Energy Gamma-Rays from Blazars with the MAGIC Telescope
Blazars, a subclass of active galactic nuclei in which the jet is aligned very close to our line of sight, can accelerate charged particles to relativistic energies in the jet. Electromagnetic emission from this class of sources can be observed from radio up to TeV energies. The MAGIC telescope is an Imaging Atmospheric Cherenkov Telescope with a 17-m diameter dish, located on the Canary Island...
متن کاملMulti-Wavelength Observations of 1ES1959+650 in a Flaring State
In May 2002, the BL Lacertae object (BL Lac), 1ES1959+650, was detected in the Very High Energy (VHE) regime by the VERITAS collaboration using the Whipple γ-ray observatory. During the following two months, the VERITAS collaboration observed episodes of flaring; at times, the nightly average VHE signal was three times as bright as the Crab Nebula, the standard candle in VHE astronomy. 1ES1959+...
متن کاملMAGIC search for VHE γ-ray emission from AE Aquarii in a multiwavelength context
Context. It has been claimed that the nova-like cataclysmic variable (CV) AE Aquarii (AE Aqr) is a very-high-energy (VHE, E >100 GeV) source both on observational and theoretical grounds. Aims. We search for VHE γ-ray emission from AE Aqr during different states of the source at several wavelengths to confirm or rule out previous claims of detection of γ-ray emission from this object. Methods. ...
متن کاملMulti-wavelength Observations of the TeV Blazars Mkn 421, 1ES1959+650, and H1426+428 with the HEGRA Cherenkov Telescopes and the RXTE X-ray Satellite
Recent results obtained with the HEGRA system of imaging Cherenkov telescopes on the TeV emission of the Blazars Mkn 421 (z = 0.030), 1ES1959+650 (z = 0.047), and H1426+428 (z = 0.129) are reported. For Mkn 421, a close connection of the average flux level and spectral shape has been observed during the periods of increased activity in the years 2000 and 2001. Simultaneously taken data with the...
